Here is to the future of “E.O. Wilson’s Life on Earth!”

Today was a huge day for the project we have been working on with the E.O. Wilson Foundation, and the world is getting a glimpse of the future look of the high school biology classroom.  Along with Apple, we are leading the way in the textbook revolution.  The entire demo given at the release event at the Guggenheim shows some of the incredible features of E.O. Wilson’s Life on Earth.  The event is something every high school student and teacher should watch.

HTH grad students in the field: Blake English, Air Swimmer

Blake English (HTH '06)

While working on the first book, “Two sides of the Boat Channel,” in the HTH San Diego Bay Study we discussed ways to sample plankton in the Bay while being on shore with a class.  Student Blake English (HTH ’06)  took on this challenge and made our first remote controlled plankton collector.  He later designed a beautiful computer simulation of fish schooling behavior and the effect of  sharks on schooling activity of fish.  Then came the  incredible toy the Air Swimmer — invented by Blake.  Congratulations Blake.  It looks like this could be the hit of the Holiday toy madness. The Air Swimmer includes a shark and a clownfish.
